Sugar Scrub for Face:
How to Exfoliate Properly
Usually, I would recommend we eat foods rather than just putting it on our skin, but today I want to avoid consuming sugars.
Limit sugars because they:
- Cause inflammation of the skin,
- Attack natural antioxidants in the body
- Damages protein like collagen and elastin
- AND produces more testosterone which enlarges pores and skin is oilier
Try giving up eating sugar and put it on your face and body instead.
NO DIY scrubs – household sugar on its own is too harsh. Skincare manufacturers mix with other ingredients to create a balance that is nourishing for the skin, so why not leverage that?
Who should use?
Normal skin types, who want the next level up for glowing skin
Who should NOT use?
→ Anyone sensitive
Acne prone skin that itches and open sores
Rosacea – already sensitive skin barrier
When skin looks dull and tired, makeup or any other skincare products do not absorb well into the skin. Our skin knows to naturally shed the outer layer that is dry and dull, but this process slows with age. We can help our skin’s exfoliation by using physical or chemical exfoliants → one of my favourites is the Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub (good ingredients and modest price of $13 CAD).
USE and WASH FACE
Contains – good ingredients
glycolic acid form of AHA water soluble and works on the surface layer of the skin to buff away any dead skin cells that make face look tired and lack lustre
Moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and macadamia seed oil to not worry about dry and dehydrating skin. Face does not feel tight after.
ALWAYS follow-up with a moisturizer – Here are a few of my favourites.
Foods
Foods rich in fatty acids serve as building blocks for healthy skin cells by keeping moisture in and toxins out.
Like: Salmon (wild for more omega 3), avocados (penetrates the skin cells at a deeper level); and Kale which is rich in vitamin A and promotes healthy skin turnover.
